How to find new domains?
Someone new to this business asked this question in a group.
Thought I’d put the reply out here instead of privately –
There is no simple answer to this, it’s like asking “which car should I buy”, it depends on your budget, interest, method, etc
- expireddomains.net – setup filters based on your requirements and search
- youtube – go check out the dnacademy videos
- domainsherpa – go see all the videos
- go to domain blogs / sites and read, specially sales reports – ricksblog, dnw, dnjournal, etc
- go and listen to domain podcasts
- go to namepros and read older posts from the beginning of the forum, lots of relevant info being shared
Basically the more you learn the better you will get at it. Though when it comes to sales the only thing you should keep in mind is the end user, they mostly purchase domains that work for them, usually without any of the info that investors look at like number of tlds, exact monthly searches, avg cpc, etc. Specially given the propensity of people to use brandables – there’s no set method for this.
Also keep in mind it’s easier to buy domains than sell. There are 360 million domains registered, less than 100k sell in any given year, 95% of those are in the 2k range. It’s not an easy business.
