The All New Bido
Web companies are known for the speed of implementation and nothing has ‘grown’ faster and more organically than Bido – the domain auction platform that really sets the standard today for live domainer led auctions.
First, the new features -
1. Sitewide Chat – Drop in, you just might get to speak to some of the most progressive domain minds on the planet, specially Sahar Sarid.
2. Voting feature: Like a domain and want it in auction? Vote it up. More votes, higher placement in the queue, it’s a system that really works imho.
3. Multiple Auctions per day: Till now Bido auctioned only one headliner domain per day, starting July 13th they will launch multiple auctions per day, which would be interesting to see.
I dropped in to Bido yesterday to place a few prebids and was surprised by all the new features, specially since I mostly don’t read newsletters. For me the proof of the pudding is in the eating, as it is for millions of surfers.
Then I had the good fortune of actually catching Sahar in chat and got his take on things.
It’s all about bringing real liquidity to the space, helping buyers and sellers, and the community. Next few weeks here are going to be exciting, to see multiple auctions going.
I then mentioned that the more successful marketplaces provide direct end user marketing, to which his take was an interesting insight for me.
The idea is to give sellers the tools to create their own marketing campaigns. We can really only market to our community and maybe a little more but we do hope sellers start to market on their own, create their own auction pressure for their auctions. We’re here to provide the tools and help as much as we can.
I quite like the new format and the wonderful new features, but I can’t help being concerned by the fact that the target market is again the domainers pool, something that is shrinking if my reading of things is right. Not to mention as affected by the worldwide liquidity crisis one sees everywhere else.
Let’s hope Bido helps in bringing much needed liquidity to the domaining pool, should be fun in any case, see you there!
Thanks for the coverage, MW. Regarding your comment about target markets, we provide a place for sellers to bring end users and run an auction in a fair open market. Without going into a lot of details here, we have some ideas in mind that will benefit domain sellers still beyond what we currently provide on Bido.com. It is a work in progress. We continue to develop, test, and work on ways on to successfully market to end users and allow them to purchase domains all the while feeling comfortable and safe in a place where trust is possible. And in addition to this holy grail for sellers when end users get involved in bidding, we’re providing a platform to maximize inter-industry trading among professional domainers with a vibrant marketplace of motivated sellers and capable buyers.
