I don’t know if you all noticed…

That I am now a moderator on NamePros for the ccTLD forum.

Just trying to give back to the community as I told Corey from Fusion Explorers. The rest of the interview might make for light reading ;)

Also, I’ve been accepted by the good folks at Bido as an industry expert. I’m honoured. I get to have my say on their domains before the auction. I find Bido quite intriguing, do pay them a visit, their one domain auctioned per day is certainly a unique format in these days of million domain listing marketplaces.

Big Changes in the Domain World

Lots of changes, perspectives and what not are shaking up the domain world.

Rick Schwartz - well known domain guru, organizer of T.R.A.F.F.I.C events and more has decided to stop blogging. His decision stems from this post and this is what he has to say -

“I am not going to blog anymore. People are not paying attention to what is coming. They expect somebody else to take care of it for them.”

Rick’s primary concern - “While we do these things, our enemy is organizing and they will change rules and laws that will take YOUR domains and the earnings they currently make for you and your families and are actively trying to shift those dollars to their pockets for them and their families.”

Its weird, the American government is doing its best to destroy probably the only recession proof industry it has and allow big business that is notorious for short changing the government a chance to take away your dreams. While off shore companies will benefit by people taking their domains overseas, they are still not safe, as the registry is based in the US and subject to US law.

What can you do - Join the ICA (costs $295), donations are also welcome. If you’re American please write to your local Senator and explain to him/her why this bill is detrimental to your financial well being. Have I joined the ICA, not yet, but plan too as soon as I can raise enough funds.

In fact, if you have been following this story, its a primary reason why us noobs have been moving away from the .com and .net into ccTLDs and why these ccTLDs (read .in) have been going up in value (defend.in sold for $9400 and leap.in is currently on auction at $3000…).

And from all this doom and gloom, a ray of hope and sense from Frank Schilling (read his post, I’m just quoting from the comments :) ) -

If you want to look for this industry’s next visionary.. head to your nearest mirror and look in the eye’s of the person in it. You have the power to make a difference in this industry, each and every one of you. There are no Gods in the domain industry, just hard working people who think they can make a difference and lazy apathetic people who want the answer served on a silver platter.

Even his comments are better than my posts, time to gird the… ;)
