I had an accident today, car was rogered, cars braked suddenly on the highway, as did I and a truck hit me from behind. Going to be an expensive fix. Was really bummed out there for a bit, I’ve never had an accident this bad tbh. Plus at times like these, you want to conserve money, not waste it on stuff like this. Hopefully insurance will cover most of it, got my fingers crossed.

But then I remembered a story I heard from a buddy, Girish, recently, I’ll repeat it here for you -

There were two disciples of one learned man. One was really pure of heart and a general do gooder, helping all and sundry. He did well but didn’t make too much money. The other was a natural wheeler dealer and made a ton.

They went back once to meet their teacher. On the way there they both tripped and fell. The good one broke his arm, the other guy discovered that he had stubbed his toe on a big diamond.

On meeting their teacher again they asked the most important question – why? Why was the man who did good deeds and who helped everyone less fortunate than the other one, who wasn’t as good or as helpful.

The teacher told them its karma. “When you both fell, the man who found the diamond was actually supposed to find an entire mine, but because he was not the best he could be in helping others etc, he only found a diamond, not the mine. You on the other hand,” he told the good one “were supposed to die from the fall, but because of your good deeds you only broke your arm.”

So I guess sometimes you really have to thank your stars, even when you think you’ve had a bad day or a bad incident happens to you, it could have been much worse.
