The .Pro Opportunity
One of the most under registered stlds out there with the maximum brand value is .Pro – only 40k or so names registered. Lots of top keywords available as well as some good geos. Plenty of opportunity there for people to invest in a global top level domain, even if it is sponsored.
Though .Pro is tricky – 1. It has nexus requirements – you need to self certify as a professional. 2. Not all keywords that would work in other tlds will work with .Pro, it requires a bit of linguistic and also a degree of gut feel to register the correct domains.
Whats really exciting is that the registry is releasing one, two and three word .Pros soon for registration. That’s 26 single letter .pros, 676 two letter .pros and 17,576 three letter .pros – plenty of material to ensure all comers get some part of the action.
Highly Sought After Domains Coming to .PRO in Q4 of 2009
CHICAGO, Illinois, May 19, 2009 — RegistryPro, the exclusive operator of the .PRO top-level domain on the Internet, announced today it reached an agreement with ICANN that allows for the release and allocation of one-, two- and three-character names. The availability of these several thousand names—like i.pro, pr.pro and 777.pro—is expected to generate significant interest from registrants all over the world.
“We’re excited to make these unique .PRO domains available to business and service professionals worldwide,” said Catherine Sigmar, general manager of RegistryPro. “We’ve received over 4,000 emails about 1-, 2- and 3-character .PRO names. Two names in particular have generated over 500 emails on their own. This contract amendment allows RegistryPro to answer this tremendous demand in the coming months.”

While this is welcome news, we’re going to restrict ourselves to less names but of the best quality possible.
And then there is the possibility that the registry will auction the names, at least single letters, most probably all, who knows.
Keep an eye out folks, its like the .com landrush, without the competition. Cheers!
