CNN invests millions in a .IN
… or so says the headline at the popular TheDomains blog.
Partially correct is what I would say
CNN has invested in Outside.in – a startup which provides local feeds to news organizations in the US. How much is unknown but it should be seven figures going by the info released by the company.
However, CNN didn’t invest in the domain, they invested in the company and the future of the service it provides.
That the company in question uses a .in instead of a .com to brand itself just underlines the global significance and acceptability of the .in extension because of IN also being a preposition
We’ve already seen many startups and companies across Germany, Switzerland, Japan and Korea using this extension, now its made inroads into the US, which can only bode well for the extension in the long term.
