The introduction of the new gTLDs by ICANN will certainly change the web landscape as we know it. Though we probably won’t see any new gTLDs operational till 2013, the action surrounding this event will surely bring in renewed media attention and a whole slew of domain investors.

500 to a 1000 new Registries all plugging their ‘product’ in mainstream and tech media. As many new landrushes, targeting various industries and verticals. All this leading to a mind boggling new event horizon that will change the internet as we’ve known it.

Outside the industry too we’ll have all types of action. Specially among the doomsday believers, survivalists and disbelievers. With domain investors buying guns and others selling everything they own and heading for the hills, it’s going to be eventful.

So whether the world ends in 2012 or not, be prepared for a very very fun year! “Hope for the best. Expect the worst. But be ready to deal with whatever comes along.”
