It takes a LOT to get domainers excited about anything.  We’re a jaded lot, have been there and done that. Everybody plugs their new services and offers on community sites (NP/DNF) and we see the underbelly of every successful and not so successful online venture.

So what does one do to make the domaining community take notice? Ask Rick Latona. He’s one smart cookie. He bought a theme change at NamePros, one of the top two domain communities online. It went from a sober blue and white to a stark orange and red.

The comments were thick and fast… its been bought… it got hacked… wtf is Rick Latona. Which is exactly what I think it was about. Doubt ANYONE in domaining will forget that name now, thats effective advertising for you - in your face, to the point (right demographic) and viral… got me to blog about it. :)  Wtg Rick and welcome to NamePros.

  1. I think you are right, his approach was extremely effective. I however conduct alot of professional business at NP and feel that this shock definitely rattled some brains in the community. I did not notice one single request for development work today. THATS A FIRST. Cheers to Rick but I would prefer he take a less abrasive approach.

  2. This is one of the boldest advertising approaches I’ve seen in a while. The only thing that could have topped this would have been to start it on April Fools Day.

  3. Mike, all good in your face advertising has to have top of the mind recall. This does that in spades. Abrasive, maybe, but effective without a doubt. Plus its only for 10 days, anything that brings in revenue for NP should be good for its members long term.

    Apple pie, mmmmm, lmao.

  4. I was so spaced out that day I didn’t even notice the theme change for ages :p
